I know at least 3 people heard the song in their head when you read the article’s title.
OK friends I’m torn. I’m super excited because the Superbowl is coming up, and I’m IN IT!! I’m also sad, because this is the final contest of the fantasy season. We’ll have to wait until September to get in on the fun all over again!! Let’s take a look at Round 5 and how we got our four finalists.
ROUND 5
If you read the recap for rounds 3 and 4 (which most people didn’t because it only had like 8 views #sadface) you’ll know the top two slots were pretty secure. That remained the case for all of round 5. Both myself and Henny were solidly in spots 1 and 2 for the entire round. Henny did try to make a push to overtake me on top, but that didn’t happen. For the round, I finished 9th and Henny finished 5th. So our generous leads came in handy! Now, let’s talk about the last 2 spots to make the SB. Last week, I mentioned there were 5 people that were all competing for the last two spots. Seth, in 3rd after 4 rounds, was “probably safe.” There was a reason he was only probably safe. Of the other 5 that were in the running to make the playoffs, only Kari had a bad round 5. The remaining three were ON FIRE in round 5....and Seth was shitting bricks over it. I lost count of how many times the 3rd place and 4th place spots changed during round 5. Kari entered the round in 6th place but only a point and a half out of 4th. That's as close as she would get to greatness. Right out of the gate she got a goose egg from Troy Franklin in the 1st game. This opened the door WIDE open for 3riversyinzers, Larry, and Lance to engage in the telephone booth knife fight discussed last week. Dave, opened with the NE defense in the 1st game game. If any of you watched, you know that was a good play. For those that didn’t: it was a defensive battle, and NE DST notched 12 points with 3 sacks, 2 forced turnovers, and a blocked kick. After the first round Dave found himself within reach of a playoff spot. He ended up having a good round 5 finishing in 3rd place. The real battle would prove to be between the father son duo of Lance and Larry (Bootlegger). And, HOOOO DAWG, the margins would prove to be tight!! Both managers had Stafford, Harvey, Walker III, Nacua, Barner, and NE DST. For those of you with trouble counting, that means 6 out of 9 roster spots were shared, so the difference would come down to 3 players. Bootlegger with Mims Jr, Sutton and Higbee. Lance with: Diggs, Douglas and Parkinson. Lance had a 1 point lead after round 5, however, a big fat ZERO from Demario Douglas hindered his aspirations to make the playoffs. Stefon Diggs did not help with only 4.2 points, but Parkinson came through with 3 receptions for 62 yards leaving him with a respectable 7.7 points. Larry chose the wrong LA TE in Higbee who was overshadowed by Parkinson and only landed 1 catch and came in at 1.7 points. The deciding factor for Bootlegger was his receiving core both outscoring Lance’s by wide margins. Mims Jr had 4 receptions for 62 yards, and Courtland Sutton sucked in three catches for only 17 yards, but added a Tuddy. The 117 point Round 5 performance launched Larry into a comfortable 3rd place dethroning the aforementioned Seth into 4 place. Was Lance’s 110.16 points enough to overtake Seth’s 97.84 and snag the last entry to the SuperBowl. The answer the tiniest squeak of a ‘no.’ When all was said and done. Seth barely punched his ticket to the finals by .36 points. A mere 4 yards rushing or receiving or a single catch would have been the difference between Lance taking down “probably safe Seth” and competing for the money! Despite a really good 5th round appearance, Dave had dug himself too deep of a hole in the first 4 rounds To be saved by a 3rd place finish in round 5. Kari blew a good opportunity with a less than stellar 5th round and didn’t have a 50 point cushion like I did. Another honorable mention, our GP winner this year had a 4th place finish in round 5, but really had a snowball's chance in hell of making it after a very poor first 4 rounds. Seth got lucky Ayden forgot a lineup for round four or else he would have been bumped from the finals too!! In all it was a very exciting 5 rounds.
So there you have it managers. Your final 4 participants will be Dane, Genisis, Larry, and Seth. The individual round winners will get 30 bucks each. The remaining money will be split between 1st and 2nd place $150 and $75 respectively. The individual round winners for rounds 1 to 5 are: Ayden, Dane, Ayden, Lance, Larry respectively. Once again, the fantasy chops are on display again for my family. I will have one more post following the Superbowl and that will do it for all the competitions this year. Hopefully, I’m motivated enough to post some football related articles during the year, and hopefully you guys stay engaged through the website!! TTFN
