1/3rd through the season!

OK Grand Prix Managers, we are officially 1/3rd of the way through the season with six of eighteen weeks in the bag. Injuries are really taking a toll this year affecting some badly and others not at all. Since we are 1/3rd of the way through the season, let’s break down the leaderboard into thirds and get into some commentary. Top 10

Missy had the strongest start remaining undefeated until this week. This week’s L cost Missy the top spot with the Karolina Kraken falling to 2nd place. Geni debuted the season in the top slot starting with 2 wins in H2H (even if she did have a horseshoe up her ass in week 2 getting a win with only 64.12 points). In the past few weeks, she has slipped but is still sitting pretty at 9th. Her fall can't have hurt too much because her boyfriend, Zack, is the NEW supreme leader with 95.81 total points. He remains the only undefeated player in H2H at 6-0 with 2 of those wins notching a bonus point scored. He isn’t bullet proof though. Zack is sitting on only 28 points in the PNTS league down in 7th place. Elsewhere in the Top 10, we find the only person to achieve the double point bonus so far this year: Madlaw. She has a mad good team with the third highest number of points scored across all H2H (that double point bonus this week didn’t hurt). And lastly, the Grand Prix’s very first champion is returning to prominence. After a couple of down years, Jori is sitting just outside the money at 4th place riding top tier placement in both H2H and PNTS. You know, now that I think of it, mad props to the ladies of Grand Prix. There’s only 7 of you and 4 are in the top 10. That’s a pretty good showing from you gals. Give em one!! Huah!!!

Middle 10

Moving to the “still in it to win it” section of the leaderboard. Let’s take a look at some of the managers hanging out in the middle waiting to make their move. At the top of the middle third, we have last year’s champion Rick (RDG) chilling out at 11. Not nearly as strong as last year, but still respectable. We also have the highest ranked of our new recruits here. Alex, who joined just to be obnoxious in the forums, (which he is failing at) is at 16th. Dave, another new recruit barely squeezes into the middle third at 20th place. In this tier you will also see everyone’s favorite statistician, Bootlegger at 19th clinging to hope by going 2-5 and BARELY missing a double bonus in Week 4 with 139.22 points scored. Elsewhere in the middle tier we have my Marine Corps bestie, Steve! Last year Steve raged past me in the last week to claim 2nd place and cost me a hundred bucks or so!!! Jerk. This year, he is once again setting himself up for success by going 4-2 in H2H even if one of those Ws was obtained with a 77.36 score. A couple places up in the PNTS league would easily get Steve into the top ten.

Bottom 10

And now for the bottom feeders, the undesirables, the downtrodden, and the plain unlucky. At the top of the bottom 3rd we have newcomer, Richie. Vogon Blitz has been unlucky with injuries this year, but managed some little bit of good luck by notching a W with only 68 points this week. Currently at respectable 3-3 in H2H, but at the bottom of the trash pile in PNTS (9th). Let’s look at the other end of the bottom 10. At 29th it’s another league newcomer, Bryan. The only thing Bryan has going for him right now is the fact that Clean Sweep Justice is getting clean swept in H2H and hasn’t won a game yet (putting him dead last overall). He is also only 8th in his PNTS league and will likely fall to last if Justice can finally be the last person to put their first “1” in the Win column. Who else might we find down here on the bottom of the barrel? The Grand Prix Commissioner, the pioneer, founder and CEO, the website namesake: that's right, yours truly, Dane. After a finish in the money last year, I find myself in the dung heap, unable to find my stride. The worst part is I haven’t even really been nagged by injuries. I just missed on SOOOO many draft picks. I've been able to notch a win and even almost got another this week despite scoring only 82 points. I had a couple good weeks in PNTS only to plummet again this week with a measly 77. Oh well. The fight isn’t over, and I got some rookies just chompin' at the bit to take a starting job!! Don’t cry for me Argentina!!! Or, well, none of you guys cry for me either. I’ll be fine. I do have one thing that continues to irk me: the bias shown in the leaderboards for the H2H league over the PNTS league. The way we normalize the scores tends to artificially inflate doing well in the H2H league. The bias slowly goes away as the season goes on, but I don’t like it skewing the leaderboards early. I will work with Pops to get something figured out. Not sure how we’ll do it, but I’ll make sure to keep you all up to date. Maybe next year PNTS league will start awarding bonuses for high scoring games too?

Anyway, that’s going to do it for the newsletter of thirds. Please make sure to check out the standings page embedded at The Grand Prix League Page. Pops puts updates on there in addition to what I send out here in the discussions section (scroll to the right to see his comments if your resolution is too small). This week he writes about getting to 40 managers next year. He has some suggestions on how that might happen. I hope everyone is continuing to enjoy the league. Feel free to get engaged and make some posts. I’ve been posting some pretty funny Cam Skattebo-Jaxson Dart links. I’d love to see what kind of NFL content you like to watch! Or you can just comment calling me a shithead because I called you out in the write up!!! Until next time folks!!

Might have slipped a little (a lotta) bit this week but it could be worse. I could be FlagonSlayers 🤫
